Activity 1. Fossil fuels and Big Oil

  • In class, view selected chapters of streaming video from PBS Frontline: Heat [Note: May also be assigned as a pre-class activity to be completed at home]
    • Chapter 2. Fossil Fuels, the Engine of Our Lives
    • Chapter 6. Big Oil
  • Instructor leads class in discussion of why China, and the rest of the developing world, cannot reasonably follow the Western model of development

Group activities related to solving problem related to petroleum:

Activity 1. Form teams and review problem

Activity 2. Review basic features of wiki and explain how it will be used to store and organize content related to solving

Activity 3. Learners, within teams, answer the questions found in the problem and posted in the class wiki.
