Problem Solving Process - Learners Collaboratively Solve Assigned Problem

Step 1. Learners, within their teams, utilize selected resources to gather information and resources required to solve the instructional problem

xxxxxa. Learners visit the websites on the web-based resources and then gather needed information as a group
xxxxxxxb. Each group analyzes the problem and breaks down the problem into a few tasks

xc. Group leader assigns the tasks to different group member and each member has responsibility to read and summerize particular part of information

Step 2. Instructor provides feedback and support to teams

xxxx a. Instructor provides supplemental reading materials in the supplemental resource page

b. Instructor monitor the progress of each team and allows some class time for Q&A section for team
xxxxxc. Instructor provides just-in-time instruction on knowledge and skills if required by learners in class

Step 3. Learners share information with fellow team members

xxxxxa. Each member collects information and presents the summerized information to other team members
xxxxxxb.Group members discuss and identify the gap between their understanding and the problem solution
xxxxxc. Group identify the new tasks and continue to obtain more information and skills

Step 4. Develop solutions to selected problem


xxxxxa. Each group member complete his or her own part of the solution plan
xxxxxb. Group design the initial draft of the solution plan and post it in the discussion forum
xxxxxc. Instructor provides feedback to each group about the initial solution plan

Step 5. Report progress to fellow teams and the instructor


xxxxa. Each group memeber submit a confidential biweekly report to the instructor
xxxxb. Instructor sets up one regular meeting with each group once each week to identify new needs of the group and new problems of group project work

Step 6. Participate in inter-team collaboration


xxxxa. Instructor divides the whole class into two large groups and each large group inlcudes 3 or 4 small groups
xxxxb. Each large group is allowed to have regular meetings once a week during class time and each small group presents its work including success and concerns to other groups
xxxxc. Small groupr provide feedbacks to each other and discuss the new ideas and new needs

Step 7. Evaluate solutions


xxxa. Each group eveluate and analyze its initial solution plan according to the instructor's feedback and other groups' feedbacks
xxxb. Each group does once formative evaluation with expert view method for each new version of the solution plan.
